Winning the Battle against Worry and Stress
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
When you feel your concerns, fears and troubles building, how do you respond to and deal with the stress? Like so many of us, your thoughts go into the worry state. And from there, it can spin out of control.
The word “worry” comes from the Old English “wyrgan,” which means “to strangle.” It’s so easy to let worry and stress take over and literally choke the joy out of our lives.
In these moments, we need to make the conscious decision to pause for a moment and give it all to God, knowing, and trusting, He is in control of the situation.
The Bible says, let us throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1).
Today we live extremely stress-filled lives. Work, home, environment, the government, family life, neighbours can all add to our stress levels.
What is important is how you deal with stressful situations. Do you take it all on your own, or give it for the Lord? Jesus asks us to come to Him and He will give us rest.
When faced with difficult situations, take it in prayer to the Lord. Ask yourself, what would Jesus do? How would he handle this situation?
In John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” Do you trust him as your way, or are you going to take it all on your own?
Let Us Pray
As the tears of my burdens trickle down my cheek and impact the floor, Father please draw near. I am crying out in desperation. I need You right here, right now! Oh Lord, I am constantly on edge and I cannot think clearly.
The stress that weighs on my shoulders keeps me up at night. I toss and turn at the thought of the pressures of life.
Oh Lord, my God, grant me peace in my heart, eliminate the pain and relieve me of the stress I feel. Allow Your serenity and love to consume me.
Relax my mind, my body and my soul as I surrender myself to You. Revive the joy and energy I once had. Allow Your light to infiltrate through the darkness and give me grace so I can smile again. In Jesus name I pray, Amen!
