Prayer: Peace, Be Still!

Mark 4:37-41: And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

AD!

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

Are you going through a storm? The disciples of Jesus were in a storm with Jesus in their boat. The waves hit the boat, and it was filling up with water and beginning to sink. Yet Jesus was peacefully sleeping in the stern. And the disciples started doubting if Jesus really cared about them.

Are you going through so much right now? Maybe you are going through a financial storm and the waves of debt have hit you so much that you are beginning to sink into the sea of depression? Maybe you’re going through  a health storm, and you wonder if God is truly in control right now. Does it seem like Jesus is not even interested in your life?

Yes, the disciples felt the same way. They asked Him, Teacher, don’t you care that we are perishing? We know You had the power to prevent this from happening, but You didn’t. Do you really care?

The hearts of the disciples were in a storm too. Most times, when we are going through a situation, we are likely to allow our hearts to be troubled, and to question God’s care and sovereignty. But today, this is what Jesus is saying to every troubled heart:

John 16:33. I have said all these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble: but take heart! I have overcome the world.

Jesus wants you to have perfect peace in Him, regardless of what you are passing through. He said that trials, distress and frustrations are bound to come, but be of good cheer; take courage; be confident; be certain, for He has overcome the world and conquered it for you.

He says, Peace, be still, to your heart. Peace, be still, to your situation.

Let Us Pray

John 14:27. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Dear Lord, thank You for giving me your peace. Thank You that the peace that You give does not come from circumstances, but from knowing You and having fellowship with Your Spirit.

But Lord, the circumstances have pressed me down and  I feel unsettled and have almost lost my peace. In the name of Jesus Christ, I command peace to fill me. I say, Peace be still, to my heart. All trouble raging in my soul, I say peace be still, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Peace be still, to every financial storm. Peace be still, to every marital storm. Peace be still, to every health storm. Peace be still, any fear in me. Peace, be still, to every worry. In the name of Jesus Christ. Let the peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard my heart in Christ Jesus, Amen.
