New Year Resolutions!

A woman walked into her bathroom at home. As she did, she saw her husband weighing himself on the bathroom scale, sucking in his stomach. The woman thought to herself, “He thinks that he will weigh less by sucking in his stomach.” So, the woman rather sarcastically said to her husband, “That’s not going to help.” To which her husband replied, “Sure it will. It’s the only way I can see the numbers.”

AD!

New Year’s is a time we look back at the year or years gone by. A time to reflect on the progress we’ve made, and to make new plans for the coming year.

Is it right for a Christian to make a New Year’s Resolution? There is nothing in the Bible that speaks for or against making New Year’s Resolutions.  But, more importantly, what are your goals and motivation behind these resolutions?  Why do most Resolutions fail quickly? Because there is no power in them! The focus is on the individual . There is no power in these goals because God isn’t a part of them.

If God is the center of your New Year’s Resolution, it has a great chance for success, depending on your commitment to it. Philippians 4:13 tells us, “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”

If it is God’s will for something to be fulfilled, He will enable you to fulfill it. If a resolution is not honoring God or is not in agreement in God’s Word, we will not receive God’s help in fulfilling the resolution.

Proverbs 3:1-2 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Let us Pray

Heavenly Father, I bring my resolutions, dreams, goals, desires for the year 2021 before You. Oh Lord, whatever is not of you, remove from my heart. Let me know your will for my life and the directions I should take. Guide me daily. May Your Holy Word be my constant guiding light.

Oh Lord, as I look to the future, I pray that You will help me keep my focus on being ready for Your return. I look towards the heavens and I bless the Most High and praise and glorify Your name.

May I become more and more like Christ and live victoriously over the sin and fear that desires to destroy me and my relationship with the Lord. Thank you for the trials and blessings of 2020. Bless my hands and feet and the work thereof throughout 2021. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
