How Do You Really See Yourself?
When you see a photo of yourself, that someone posted on maybe Instagram, or Facebook, do you immediately see all your “flaws”?
* “My arms are too fat (or too skinny)!”
* “My eyes are too big!”
* My hair isn’t fixed properly!”
And the list goes on, and on, and on.
Or, do you see yourself the way God created you? Perfect in His sight; made in His own image and likeness?
If all we can see is our flaws, then lens through which we view ourselves, and the world around us, is all wrong. As believers in Christ, we must have a total transformation of our minds. We must be into the Word and allowing the Word to shape our thinking. Our mind is being transformed, as we partner with the Holy Spirit.
Romans 12:2 – And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
We need to trust God to take us through the new way of thinking. God is teaching us His way.
When we come before the Lord in worship, whatever our situation, and whatever our perceived flaws of ourselves, we need to let it all go. Give everything over to God and let Him guide us on renewing our minds.
Isaiah 59:2 – “But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”
God has removed those hindrances, walls, stumbling blocks, through His Son at the cross. The blood of Jesus has made us whole!
Yet, we allow the thoughts, bad memories, negative thinking to keep coming back and we put the walls back up. Break those chains permanently!
Remember, we are God’s idea, His creation. He thought us up! He formed us before the foundation of the world! He loves us! He caused us to be alive.
We have a tendency to be more conscious of our flaws, than who God created us to be. Break down those walls. Engage in intimacy with our God. Don’t hold back from Him. It’s okay to lay everything before God. Be yourself, relax and let go.
Romans 5:1-2 AMPC
“THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
2. Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God’s favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God.”
When we think of punishment, harshness, criticism and judgment, that is based on our experience with key figures in our lives. When we think of God the same way, it creates a barrier to intimacy. It is only in Him that we learn our true identity with Him.
God loves us. He is not paying attention to our flaws.
Psalm 18:35 AMPC “You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, and Your right hand has held me up; Your gentleness and condescension have made me great.”
