Prayer When Your Hope And Faith Is Shaken
There are situations that occur in our lives that shatter our faith in God or shake us to the core. These situations may have us questioning the very existence of God and whether He really cares about us.
We wonder why God is “not answering” our prayers and we are tempted to ask Him, “Why me”?
The Lord Jesus Christ prayed in Gethsemane for God to take away his cup of suffering on the cross. He said, “Father take away this cup from me, however, not my will but yours be done.”
Matthew 26:38-39 Then He (Jesus) said to them, My soul is very sad and deeply grieved, so that I am almost dying of sorrow. Stay here and keep awake and keep watch with Me. And going a little farther, He threw Himself upon the ground on His face and prayed, saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will [not what I desire], but as You will and desire.
Did the Father take away the cup from Jesus? No. He didn’t, because it was His will for Jesus to suffer and die on the cross, to bring redemption to all mankind.
Instead, The Father sent His angels to strengthen Jesus in His sorrow.
Luke 22:43 And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven, strengthening Him in spirit.
Sometimes, the genuineness of our faith is tested through trials and hardships. But when we are going through them, we should remember that God is aware and in control.
Hold on, be faithful to the end. Grow daily in faith and love.
Talking about trials, the Bible says:
1 Peter 1:7 Their purpose is to prove that your faith is genuine. Even gold, which can be destroyed, is tested by fire; and so your faith, which is much more precious than gold, must also be tested, so that it may endure. Then you will receive praise and glory and honor on the Day when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Let Us Pray
Heavenly Father, thank you for your wonderful love and kindness towards me. Thank you for delivering up your only begotten Son to die in my place that in His resurrection I may have life.
Father, my faith is shattered. I feel helpless and I am tempted to question your existence and sovereignty.
I’ve been through so much, Oh Lord. How much more can one person take?
I’ve prayed with faith, yet nothing seems to have gone my way. I’ve lost loved ones and I miss them so much. I’ve struggled with my relationships and my family seems to be falling apart. Oh Lord, my faith has been shaken.
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.
All Things Work Together for Good
But I take comfort in knowing that You, the all-powerful God, are on my side, working out all things for my good.
Right now, I may not feel that all things are working for my good, but I will have hope in You because your word says that hope does not disappoint.
Romans 5:5 Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.
Lord, I pray for the restoration of my faith. Restore me from within. Refresh me, Oh Lord. Renew my strength and comfort me by your Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things…
