How even Robinson Crusoe gave thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

AD!

The apostle Paul didn’t say to give thanks “for” all circumstances, but “in” all circumstances. All our circumstances in life are not good, but there will always be something in those circumstances for which to give thanks.

When Robinson Crusoe was shipwrecked on a lonely island, he thought of both the good and the bad.

– He was cast onto a desolate island, but he gave thanks because he was still alive, not drowned as all of his ship’s company was.

– He was divided from mankind, but he gave thanks because he was not starving.

– He had no clothes, but he gave thanks because he was in a hot climate where he didn’t need them.

– He was without means of defense, but he gave thanks because he saw no wild animals.

– He had nothing to speak of, but he gave thanks because God had sent the ship so near to the shore that he could get out some of the vital stocks and tools.

Jesus Gave Thanks

Matthew 26:26-29 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

Just before his trial and crucifixion, even while knowing what lay ahead, Jesus gave thanks! He didn’t complain. He set the example.

Often you meet persons who tell you that they have nothing to be thankful for. And in so doing, they condemn themselves. Do not condemn yourself. Bless yourself by always giving thanks, every day.

1 Peter 2:9 “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”

Let Us Pray

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this beautiful day. Thank you for the life and the blessings you have given me.

I know that not everything in my life is perfect, I know that there are some pending requests and blessings coming my way.

But today, I just want to lift up my voice and thank you. Thanks for all you have provided and the comfort you have given me through my battles.

Thank you for the grace over my life and my family’s lives.

Thank you  for the favor I receive on a daily basis. I’m thankful for the blessings in my life, blessings seen and unseen.

As I lift up my hands in praise and worship today, I ask that you keep my heart and posture focused on you. Help me not to request anything, but just be thankful for all you have done and are yet to do. May my thanksgiving be intentional and may I know the desires of your heart, more than my own. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
