Are Negative Words and Thinking Overpowering You?

There’s the story of a Trappist monk who was allowed to say just two words, every three years. After the first three years, he said to the Brother Superior, “Bad bed.”

AD!

Three years later, he came back to say, “Bad food.”

After three more years of silence, the monk said, “No TV.”

Another three years passed. This time, the monk appeared with robes and sandals in hand and announced, “I quit.”

The Brother Superior answered, “It’s no wonder. You’ve done nothing but complain ever since you got here!”

Proverbs 13:3 says ”He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin”

Is your daily life filled with negative words? Or do your words uplift and inspire those around you, as well as yourself?

Do you complain constantly or praise and give thanks?

There’s the saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” It is totally wrong. Words do hurt!

If our words contain beauty, people treasure them. But if our words contain pain and negativity, they hurt and destroy.

Proverbs 11:12 reminds us: “It is foolish to belittle a neighbor; a person with good sense remains silent.”

And Proverbs 11:17 “Your own soul is nourished when you are kind, but you destroy yourself when you are cruel.”

Be Transformed

The Bible says, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” It also says, “Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, or admirable, think on these things.”

You can choose what you let your mind dwell on. You are what you think and what you think comes out in your words.

Battle the thoughts that don’t line up with Scripture through prayer. Speak positive Bible verses instead.

Let Us Pray

Heavenly Father, Take away all negative thoughts and words from me. Fill me with lips that praise and give thanks and blessings.

Lord,  so often I can sit complaining about everything that is happening in my life. But today I choose to step out in faith and see the victory before me.

I have so much to be thankful for, Oh Jehovah Jireh.

Thank you for the Holy Spirit you have sent to guide and direct me. I declare that the enemy is defeated.

I am an overcomer. I will speak words of life and love and not hurt and pain. In Jesus name I Pray, Amen.

Have a blessed Sunday. If this has been a blessing to you, please leave a comment!
