???????? Prayer – Returning to my First Love for God
At the moment we give our lives to Christ, our lives are completely renewed. There is a sudden turn around about everything: We have peace, unexplainable joy, and excitement to let others know about Jesus. We feel pure and truly forgiven and our heart towards God is like that of a little child. There is fresh fire burning in us, and God becomes our first priority.
Anthony shared his story with us:
“When I encountered Jesus Christ, my love for him was above the love I can feel for a woman. There was a strong feeling of safety, trust, and I wanted to be constantly in the presence of God. Those days if I wake up in the night, it was a great opportunity to pray and meditate…unlike these days when waking up means nothing more than checking the time to see how many more hours I have to sleep. I used to sleep at church with other brethren for night vigils or discussions at the fire place. But today, if I have to be honest, I pray just so I don’t feel guilty.”
Do you serve God out of obligation? Is your prayer life dropping gradually? Is it difficult for you to spend time reading your Bible? Do you feel that going to church has become a burden? Are you always excusing yourself why you can’t do God’s work? Have you stopped witnessing about Christ to others?
These are all signs of losing your first love. Today, the Word of God is reminding us to return to our first love.
Revelation 2:4-5 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
Jeremiah 2:2 Go proclaim this message to everyone in Jerusalem. “I remember how faithful you were when you were young, how you loved me when we were first married; you followed me through the desert, through a land that had not been planted.”
It is time for us to cry for mercy from the Lord. For we know that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. Cry from your Spirit as you pray. Whatever you ask in His name shall be granted to you.
Let Us Pray
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for Your Word today. Thank You for opening my eyes to see that I need to return to my first love.
Lord, I am sorry for not loving You like how I loved You at first. Yes, my love has grown cold. My desire to fellowship with other believers has almost faded. I am not in pursuit of You anymore. I don’t make time to commune with Your Spirit like before.
I have allowed the cares of this world to choke my love and faith in You. Lord, I don’t know how I got to this point. I confess my sin and I receive Your forgiveness today, Lord.
Bring Me Back to my First Love
My Father, my God, I cry out to You! Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love! According to your great compassion, blot out my transgression and bring me back to You.
Bring me back to my first love for You. Renew my passion for You, my God. Renew my zeal for Your word. Oh my God, hear the cry of my heart. Give me a grateful heart that will not forget what You did for me.
Let me love You like before. Let me love You with all my heart, with all my soul and with all my mind, in the name of Jesus Christ. You said in Your Word that if I seek You with all my heart, I will find You. Lord, restore me back to my first love, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Renew My Passion
Renew my excitement about your work. Give me passion for winning souls again. Let me be sold out to Your will and plans again, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Remove every distraction, as I cast upon you every care that has choked my love for you. Please come and have your way in me, in the name of Jesus Christ. Create in me a clean heart. Renew within me a steadfast spirit.
Psalm 51:10-12 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
In the name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
