????Prayer when You feel empty and disconnected from God
Are you experiencing feelings of emptiness, hopelessness and lack of purpose? Do you feel lost, confused and disconnected from God? Do you feel like a part of your soul is missing? Do you have an emptiness within you that just cannot be filled? Do you feel so empty and drained that you want to scream and just cry out the emptiness?
You try to distract yourself by watching movies, playing games, reading novels, or talking too much. Some turn to alcohol and drugs, and that is how addicts are formed. Well, you need to face the emptiness, find its origin and heal it…otherwise it will not be long before you are empty again.
Nora shared her story with me:
“I realized that every time I don’t read my Bible for days, or if I engaged in arguments, I would become really empty. I would feel worthless and deep down I would want to scream. One day I went very empty. I could not sleep. So I distracted myself by sweeping, mopping and packing my cupboards, all in one night. It was so horrible that I felt I was losing my mind. I was banging the cupboard doors, yet I didn’t get better.”
God promises us, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,”. We are the church, the temple of God. The kingdom of God is in our hearts. So, take the time to sit in His presence and recognize where He is in the deepest part of who you are.
As you pray this prayer, be encouraged that God is able to abundantly fill your emptiness until you overflow. For scripture says that out of their belly shall flow rivers of living waters, which are rivers of God’s Spirit. Here are some scriptures to help you fill up:
John 4:13-14 Jesus answered, “Those who drink this water will get thirsty again, but those who drink the water that I will give them will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give them will become in them a spring which will provide them with life-giving water and give them eternal life.”
Genesis 1:2-3 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
The earth was formless, disordered, void, in confusion and in darkness, just like you are feeling today. But by the Word of His mouth, God brought order and light in the earth.
John 15:5 “I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me.”
Jesus is the vine, you are the branch. As long as you are connected to him, you will be continually filled with joy, peace and fulfillment. Stay in his presence, and as you meditate on the words of this prayer, may you overflow with His Spirit.
John 6:63b the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
So let Us Pray
Dear Father, thank You for loving me, even when I feel undeserving of your love. Thank You for being a light in my darkness. Thank You for holding me together when I feel broken. Lord, I feel empty, lost and confused. I feel disconnected from you. There is nothing that seems to fill the empty space in me. So Lord, I know it is meant to be filled by You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and complete me.
Psalms 42:1-2 As the hart pants and longs for the water brooks, so I pant and long for You, O God. My inner self thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God?
Oh Lord, how I long for You! My soul thirsts after You. As the deer desires and pants for the water brooks, so my soul desires and pants after You, my God.
Psalms 51:10-13 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Oh Lord my God, I cry for your mercy! Create in me a clean heart. Renew within me a right spirit, and do not take your Holy Spirit away from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold my spirit with your Spirit. I know you said You will never leave nor forsake me, Lord. I do not feel so right now, but help me Lord. Embrace me with your love and care. Comfort me, Holy Spirit. Reassure me again.
Psalms 16:2 I said to the LORD, “You are my Lord. Without you, I have nothing good.”
Lord, none of my achievements, none of my connections, none of my possessions or my treasures are able to fill me right now. I have no good thing without You. You add meaning to my life, and without You, everything is meaningless.
Fill my cup Lord. Give me the living water. Let my belly overflow with your presence, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Conclusion
When you take a fish from the water, what happens? The same is true when you take the human spirit out of God’s presence. There is a part of you that is made to fellowship with God continually. Without this fellowship, you will feel empty. I would like to encourage you to stay in God by meditating on His word and spending time in prayer and in His presence. If you are empty, MEDITATE ON THE WORD OF GOD, do not merely read! Take time in the Word of God and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you.
